How is Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery done ?
Minimally invasive spine surgery is a highly advanced technique that utilizes small incisions and specialized instruments to perform surgeries with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues. During the procedure, a tiny incision is made, through which a dilator tube is inserted. This tube acts as a guide for the surgeon, allowing them to access the spine with minimal disturbance. The dilator tube carefully moves aside muscles, ligaments, and other tissues, instead of cutting them, to reach the affected area, such as a herniated disc. Once the tube is in place, the surgeon can remove or repair the herniated disc with precision.
Because the surrounding tissues are not cut, recovery time is significantly reduced, and blood loss is minimal. Most minimally invasive spine procedures typically take less than an hour to complete. In many cases, patients are able to go home the same day as their surgery, experiencing less pain and a quicker recovery compared to traditional spine surgery.
