Treatment for Back Pain
At Texas Spine & Neurosurgery, we specialize in the treatment of back and spine issues that cause debilitating pain. If you have a neurological condition that affects your spinal cord, you can benefit from our conservative treatment approach.
We only consider surgery when it is absolutely necessary to treat your medical problems. Our skilled team, led by an incredible Stanford trained neurosurgeon, is passionate about treating back and spine problems without invasive procedures when possible.
Our practice is not directly owned by any hospital, so we provide quality care in the free healthcare market. This gives you more freedom as the patient to choose us as the best provider without the pressure of direct referrals from hospital systems.
Dr. Zielinski is our primary surgeon and founder. He is skilled in minimally-invasive spine treatment and specialized spine surgery, bringing relief from your uncomfortable symptoms so you can live a life without the challenging symptoms that often come with neurological and spinal issues.
Common Back and Spine Conditions
Some spinal conditions are more prevalent than others. Our staff is highly knowledgeable about both common and uncommon conditions and can diagnose them with proper testing.
Below, we have outlined the most common issues related to the spine. If you have been diagnosed with or suspect that you have any of these conditions, we can help you to find relief.
Radiculopathy
Radiculopathy is the term that refers to a pinched nerve in your spinal canal. This often happens in your neck, in which case, it is called cervical radiculopathy. However, the condition can occur anywhere along your spinal cord.
Radiculopathy is extremely painful and can stem from a tumor. Pinched nerves in your spinal canal often produce extreme pain, numbness and tingling in certain body parts, and weakness in your arms and legs.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition that results from pressure on your sciatic nerve, the nerve that runs from your lower back down your leg. This causes radiating nerve pain from your buttock into your leg and difficulty walking or sitting.
Back disc problems or bone spurs can cause sciatica to occur on one side of the body.
Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis occurs when a bone in your spine becomes dislocated. The vertebra may slip out of place due to injury, sports activities, or genetic predisposition.
A dislocated vertebra can put pressure on your spinal nerves, causing radiating nerve pain and numbness. Your hamstrings (the muscles on the backs of your calves) may also become tender.

Treatment for Back Problems
We offer a host of treatments for back and spine problems that cause you pain and concerning neurological symptoms. Prior to spine neurosurgery, we will try every available non-surgical treatment to address your back problems.
Back disc problems often require surgery to permanently relieve pain and prevent further nerve damage. Other spine conditions may not progress to surgery.
Non-Surgical Treatment Options Prior To Surgery
Before we begin the surgical treatment process for back disc problems and spine problems, we first pursue non-invasive treatment methods. Some patients see success with non-surgical spine treatments and never need to undergo surgery.
Some of the treatments we consider before resorting to back surgery include:
- Medications
- Lumbar bracing
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Steroid injections
- TENS units (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation)
- Chiropractics
- Pain management
- Acupuncture
- Massage therapy
If these treatment options fail to relieve your spine problems, we can perform back surgery to alleviate your symptoms. Your unique medical history and spinal problems will determine our treatment approach.
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Dr. Zielinski has been performing minimally invasive spine neurosurgery since 1997. He is a knowledgeable spine surgeon who works to treat your spine problems in the safest and most effective way possible.
Minimally invasive procedures carry fewer risks for complications and often relieve pain with less recovery time.
Minimally invasive spine surgery relies upon smaller incisions, which reduces recovery time and the risks associated with more invasive surgery. Whenever possible, Dr. Zielinski takes the minimally invasive approach with his patients. This is what sets Texas Spine & Neurosurgery apart from other neurological treatment centers.
Screw-Free Spine Procedures
At Texas Spine & Neurosurgery, we are extremely proud to offer metal-free spine surgery. Metal screws can cause patients pain and stiffness and deter patients from seeking the treatment they need. Dr. Zielinski was the first surgeon in the United States to perform a new lumbar fusion procedure without the use of any screws or metal.
You can live a screw-free life without suffering from debilitating back and spine problems. Our screw-free spine surgeries can relieve your back pain and give you a better range of motion without the need for traditional metal implants.
A lot of patients delay getting help for their back and spine problems because they don’t want invasive metal screws in their backs.
Our metal-free spine surgery has been revolutionary in giving patients effective spine relief. If you want to avoid having metal screws in your back for the rest of your life, Texas Spine & Neurosurgery is here to help you.

Cervical Fusion
Cervical fusion is a procedure that fuses vertebrae in your neck (cervical spine) together to stabilize your spinal cord. This is sometimes necessary after disc removal, as the gap between vertebrae can be dangerous.
Cervical fusion surgery allows your spine to retain its proper shape without the risk of pinched nerves or other spinal problems.
Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty is a procedure that fixes fractured vertebrae in your spine. When your vertebrae become broken or fractured, it can cause a lot of pain and create a risk of paralysis. Kyphoplasty involves injecting bone cement into the broken vertebrae to stabilize and support your spine.
Thoracic Spine Surgery
Thoracic spine surgery approaches the spinal cord from the front of your body near your abdomen. This approach is sometimes necessary when treating the middle vertebrae between your cervical spine and lower spine.
In this type of procedure, your surgeon will operate on the mid-back vertebrae and spinal cord as needed to address specific spinal conditions.
Discectomy
There are two types of disc removal surgeries: lumbar discectomies and cervical discectomies. Lumbar discectomy involves the removal of a disc in your lower spine, beneath your neck.
Cervical discectomy is a procedure that removes one of the discs in your cervical spine. This surgery may be necessary if a disc has slipped out of place and is causing nerve pain or damage.
Microscopic Spine Surgery
As part of our minimally invasive spine surgery approach, microscopic spine surgery offers a range of benefits without the difficult recovery of major spinal surgery.
Microscopic spine surgery is performed using tiny incisions and delicate surgical tools. If you have a small portion of a disc or vertebrae that needs treatment, microscopic spine surgery might be an option for you.
